Best Motorcycle Trailer 2017 – Reviews & Buying Guide

Motorcycles are meant to be ridden. But occasionally you may have to transport your bike over the road without riding it. For example, when you go on a family trip and have to drive the car while you want to take your bike with you. Or when you are moving and own multiple bikes. Or when you want to move a brand new motorcycle from one location to another. And of course, dirt bikes.

There are a few options when it comes to transporting motorcycles over the road, but except for the very largest and heaviest bikes, using a motorcycle trailer is often the best. Trucks charge outrageous prices, and whether they keep your motorcycle safe and don’t drive like maniacs is up to luck.

I believe it’s better to have control over what happens to your own motorcycle, which is why I looked in the best motorcycle trailers for sale.

What makes the best motorcycle trailer?

Obviously, the best motorcycle trailers support a lot more weight than your bike, but there is a lot more that makes a good trailer. Slight bumps in the road, sudden braking, and even minor impacts happen while driving. You don’t want your motorcycle to fall down on the road or slam into the back of your car when that happens.

You should of course always use a few sets of the best motorcycle tie down straps, so the trailer should at least have some anchor points to anchor the tie down straps to.

Some motorcycle trailers require you to buy an additional wheel chock as well, while others come with a wheel chock included, such as the Goplus 600 LBS Heavy Duty Motorcycle Trailer. If you need to get an additional wheel chock, you can read our article about the best motorcycle wheel chocks.

Goplus 600 LBS Heavy Duty Motorcycle Trailer

Best Motorcycle Trailer - Goplus 600 LBS Heavy Duty Motorcycle TrailerThe Goplus Motorcycle Trailer is rated to support bikes up to 600 lbs. So don’ try to strap on the largest Harley Davidson motorcycle you got. However, if you are looking to transport a sport bike, or even a small racing motorcycle, the Goplus motorcycle trailer will do great.

The Goplus both includes a wheel chock and a loading ramp. This means you won’t need to buy an additional wheel chock (you still need plenty of tie down straps of course). Besides that, getting the bike or motorcycle up and down from the trailer is very easy with the ramp. This is especially handy if you tend to drive your bike around often. Combined with an assembly time of 30 minute tops, this motorcycle trailer is one for comfort.

The rail is 79 inch long, which is enough for most motorcycles. Lastly, the wheel chock is fully adjustable as well, which means that as long as the motorcycle isn’t too heavy or too long, it’s going to fit just fine.

Trinity MT3 – A 3 Rail Motorcycle Trailer

Best Motorcycle Trailer - Trinity MT3 - A 3 Rail Motorcycle TrailerThe Trinity MT3 is for you if you want to take multiple motorcycles with you at once, and don’t like the hassle of small rail trailers behind your car. The MT3 is simply a plate utility trailer with three built in wheel chocks. With that, you can easily and safely take up to three motorcycles wherever you go.

A ramp is included for easy loading, and unlike the other trailers on this list, this trailer can easily carry some of the largest motorcycles. Although if you are going to take the largest motorcycles you can find on this trailer, put on two maximum instead of three.

Unfortunately there MT3 doesn’t ship everywhere, so you may need to go pick it up at terminal nearby. Overall it is by far the best motorcycle trailer you can find, which is reflected in its price somewhat. Still, the rails are removable, so in the end you can use it as a multi-purpose trailer as well.

Rage Powersports AMC-400 Aluminum Motorcycle Trailer

Best Motorcycle Trailer - Rage Powersports AMC-400 Aluminum Motorcycle TrailerThe Rage Powersports AMC-400 can support bikes up to 400lbs. This is quite a bit less than the other options, but still enough for most dirt bikes. The AMC-400 motorcycle trailer does not include a wheel chock, but it does come with a loading ramp.

The Powersports motorcycle trailer is, however, by far the easiest to use. It’s possible to assemble the trailer in 5-10 minutes. Besides that, the AMC-400 is relatively light-weight.

Overall I would say that the AMC-400 is one of the best motorcycle trailers, especially when looking for the cheaper options. You definitely shouldn’t skimp out and buy a cheap knock-off trailer though, motorcycles are way too expensive to replace.
