Motorcycles are loud. And to be honest, it’s good they are. The noise of the engine revving below really adds to the experience. It feels reassuring to some, while powerful to others. However, once you are on the highway for multiple hours, the enjoyment quickly fades. In fact, the noise can even damage your hearing over time. The good thing is that you can always bring some earplugs. But what are the best motorcycle earplugs right now?
What to look out for when buying motorcycle earplugs
There are three main categories of motorcycle earplugs out there. Most people think of the first category immediately, simple one-use throw-away earplugs. They can often be bought in bulk for cheap, such as the Howard Leight Disposable Foam Earplugs.
While those can definitely be a good choice, they aren’t the only option out there. In fact, there are high-quality reusable earplugs for the same price as a 200pack of reusable ones. No more running out of earplugs! You may need to clean them every so often, though. The best reusable motorcycle earplugs I found are the EAR Defense High Fidelity Earplugs.
Lastly, there are headphones that are earplugs combined. They work either through a normal headphone jacket or Bluetooth (iPhone 7). This allows you to listen to music or talk with your buddies over voice com while still canceling out most of the motorcycle noise. The best-wired headphone earplugs I found were the Plugfones Motorcycle Ear Plug Headphones, while the best Bluetooth motorcycle earplugs were the ISOtunes PRO Noise Isolating Bluetooth Earbuds.

Howard Leight Disposable Foam Earplugs
The disposable motorcycle earplugs from Howard Leight have quite a few things going for them. They are one of the cheapest options, come in a 200 pairs pack rather than 10 and 20 packs of which you need to buy new ones every month. Besides that, they boast a noise reduction rating of 32.
They are made of self-adjusting foam and are comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. Using disposable earplugs means you never have to clean them either. Lastly, they are very easy to put in and remove as well. Basically, they’re perfect for lazy people like me.
They come only in bright yellow-pink (see picture). Howard Leight does offer some different earplugs with different color schemes, but every single one of those is very visible, to say the least. Whether this is a good or a bad thing for you is up to you to decide.

EAR Defense High Fidelity Earplugs with Acoustic Filters
The EAR Defense ear plugs are reusable earplugs, made for noise filtering rather than outright noise canceling. This means a few things. First off, these earplugs aren’t as effective as the other earplugs overall, they have a noise reduction rating of 23 and 29 (two different buds included). However, they excel at maintaining good sound fidelity even through the ear buds. So if you want to go to concerts besides riding your motorcycle, these earplugs are going to do a better job at keeping the sound quality high than the other earplugs in this list.
They come with a small container and are easy to keep with you at all times. They’re entirely washable as well, so cleaning isn’t that much of a hassle. Lastly, they come both in a standard and large format, so if you have very large inner ears you might want to check out the large version.

Plugfones Motorcycle Ear Plug Headphones
The Plugfones Motorcycle Ear Plug Headphones are the first earplug + headphone combination on this list. They’re available in three colors: yellow, orange, and black. The headphones work with a standard 3.5mm audio jack, the kind you find on pretty much every phone (except the iPhone 7 of course).
The Plugfones Motorcycle earplugs boast a noise reduction rating of 25 dB, which is very good considering they also allow you to listen to music at the same time. They come with both a pair of silicone earplug tips and a pair of foam earplug tips, so you can use whichever you like most. Besides that, replacement parts are readily available for this model, something that cannot be said for most of the reusable earplug + headphone combinations out there.

ISOtunes PRO Noise Isolating Bluetooth Earbuds
The ISOtunes Pro Bluetooth Earplugs is on a different level entirely when compared to the other earplugs in this list. It boasts a 27 dB noise reduction rating, includes multiple sizes and types of earplugs, and is fully compatible with all Bluetooth enabled devices. Excellent for voice comms or listening to your iPhone 7.
The battery lasts up to 10 hours (240 hours standby), and it comes with a noise canceling microphone as well. The sound quality itself is pretty amazing, they easily beat out any normal headphones in the 20-40$ range. They’re also water and sweat resistant, which can help on longer motorcycle trips and when you pull your helmet off in the rain.
Overall they’re the best Bluetooth motorcycle earplugs we could find, with the only downside being the price.

DUBS Acoustic Filters Advanced Tech Earplugs
The Dubs earplugs are stylish reusable earplugs with a decent noise reduction rating (12dB). Compared to the other earplugs on this list they aren’t the best motorcycle earplugs when it comes solely to riding. However, the Dubs earplugs both win points for being stylish and for having one of the best sound fidelity preservation rates.
So if you like going to concerts on your road trips, and you care about sound fidelity, these earplugs are a solid option. They’re reusable, relatively easy to clean, and very small. Besides that, they are made of premium materials, such as high-quality foam, silicone, stainless steel, and ABS.

If you’re looking for more quality of life improvements when it comes to riding, there are a few other products that can help immensely. One of those are motorcycle glasses. The best motorcycle glasses can help prevent sun glare, as well as being an additional layer of defense against strong winds and small insects.
Another option is to get a decent motorcycle phone mount. Although most phones don’t work with gloves on, combined with a decent motorcycle Bluetooth headset, you will be able to listen to music or use your phone as a GPS device. Having a visual aid like that while riding can be quite helpful, so you don’t take the wrong roads too often.
